FIFA World Cup 2026 is just around the corner!
Use these resources for World Cup themed enrichment.
Set 1: Find the shortest routes between World Cup stadiums across the three host nations. Finding shortest routes across networks (like in this task), is crucial to lots of areas of modern life, from delivery companies planning delivery routes in the most efficient way to internet service providers working out how to send data via a route with the fewest delays.
Topics\skills: finding shortest routes through networks/graphs, working systematically.
Set 2: To follow – will be uploaded to this page by Monday 8 June.
The format of the World Cup is different for 2026! There will be 48 teams rather than 32, with some third-placed teams in the group stage continuing to the knockout stage, rather than just the top two teams per group. This means teams can graduate to the knockout stage with fewer points than in previous tournaments! In 2026, what is the least number of points a team could get and still graduate to the knockout stage?
Solve this and other points related problems!
Topics/skills: working systematically, listing options, logical deduction.
