Nicole Cozens is a mathematician and maths teacher currently working for the Advanced Maths Support Programme, delivering enrichment and Professional Development around the country. Her passion is giving students experiences of maths that enrich their school education, showing topics and uses of maths that step outside the curriculum.
Nicole obtained an MMath from Sussex University, and qualified as a teacher in 2005. She has worked in a variety of schools and Colleges, and also has delivered “maths space” for the National Space Academy – using space and astronomy as a foundation for exploring interesting maths concepts. She has given a TedEx talk on how to give maths meaning in the classroom, and has presented at Space Education conferences.
Outside of work, Nicole can be found throwing a frisbee, doing a puzzle or swimming in the sea. Her favourite mathematicians and scientists are Emmy Noether, Evariste Galois and Henrietta Swan Leavitt, and is currently learning more about Aryabhatta so the list may change!
