π Soundscape: How It Works
By Ehan Rattani, QE Boys Barnet
What is the Pi Soundscape?
The Pi Soundscape is a project I coded in HTML, CSS and JavaScript for the Pi Representation Challenge. It is a unique visualisation of Pi - the music is infinite due to Pi being an irrational number, and can be adjusted in real-time. It is a one-of-a-kind interactive, eternal song. You can use the settings menu or the sliders in the top right to adjust things like volume, speed, frequency and sound theme! You can also see the sheet music LIVE by clicking the button with a musical note icon on the top.
1. Sound
The song is based on the digits of π (pi). Each digit is assigned a note in a pentatonic scale and this note will be played when this digit is read. A higher digit will play a higher note; for example, 3 will play a higher note than 1.
2. Visual Effects
Size: Higher digits create larger particles
Color: Each digit has its own unique color
Movement: Particles move outward in different directions
Watch how each digit of π creates its own unique pattern of sound and color!
